What does it do?:
This mod adds over fifty spells/abilities to the game that reflects the philosophy of restoration - to build, to expand, to elaborate, to enchant, to modulate, to better, etc. When beginning this mod, I recommend a fresh start unless you like paying a bunch of penance - which might well be interesting. Anyway, you find a book in the Temple of Mara in Riften, at the brazier of the altar, and when reading it, will give you a copy of that book and some introductory spells into the school. Expanding your skillset (ie perks) throughout the game will unlock new spells and abilities based on what skills you're taking. As well, when casting study (don't toss out the book from your inventory), will trigger your learning of these spells or abilities, but also will unlock for you a "path" if you concentrate long enough. These paths start with auras that do passive things, but as your skills increase, you'll unlock new spells that are part of the core gameplay of that path.
Why did I make this?:
Because I liked other mods like Apocalypse and Epic Restoration, which unlocked a little more potential out of the resto tree outside of scaring away undead, healing yourself, and losing your entire mana pool trying to block a firebolt with a ward. I didn't want to have to steal for certain quests, and I didn't want to do daedric quests and kill poor Tyranus just to get out of the house. So I built into the pray spell and the original aura things that manage quests that force you to do evil stuff. It also adds a lot of dimension to the restoration tree, balanced around the "Master" level of gameplay (if you like getting kill animed by bandit chiefs from full health on "Legendary", knock yourself out).
What are some of the fun spells?:
Every path has a spell that feels good casting, and usually it's one of the first two you get while the later ones have a lot of power. If you're getting chased down by a sabre cat, you can always cast "Sleep" on him if you get it in time. If you want to do bounties but don't want to slaughter a bunch of bandits, you can channel "Change of Heart" into them, which will kill them long enough to mark them as dead before they come back up as "not bandits or forsworn" anymore. If you think Illusion should be more aggressive, I made "Plasma Bolt" which combines fire and lightning damage into a spell. Maybe you want to ride a horse that goes twice as fast as normal horses in "Celestial Steed". Or if you're in a fight and you're a lowly artist, a cohort of creatures will pop out of nowhere and attack your enemies with the "Piper" ability... and you might get stuck in a hallway waiting for combat to end. Or you can make a ghost copy of something with "Simulacrum" and go fight with it. Or maybe you see a powerful mage next to a weak one, and you just want to "1v1 me bro" against the powerful mage, casting "Debate" on it, transporting you both to another realm where you try to drain his mana before he kills you. Or if you're just lazy and you get far enough into one of the paths, cast "Wrath of the Celestials" for a chance to just kill en masse. There are many more spells: I spent the better part of three months on this.
I tried to iron out a lot of the bugs, but there's no way I got them all. Just uh... save often.
One bug that eludes me is that sometimes you'll just start racing up in Restoration experience - maybe because I have a while loop playing on a dead guy or something. I tried to clean that stuff up, but it can be challenging.
If other mods adjust quests, this may cause conflicts. This mod handles daedra quests and adds new stages to fail them. It also mods some of the main storylines. It doesn't do as much as I would like, but it does quite a bit for the time being. But at least you won't have to listen to Brynjolf's schemes anymore... though he might walk up to you and mutter "Hmm?" interminably if you're trying to see Balimund perform miracles. If so console it up, click on him, and type disable.
This is very much in alpha stage. I recommend a new save for it just so that you don't muck up your hard earned characters because one of the spells failed to enable character controls or something like that and you can't use an alchemy lab. If you do get a weird control bug like this, casting "Ray of Command" or "Simulacrum" and letting it expire will probably bust you out of it.
Some spells move you - "Luminous Walk" might take you places you feel are illegal to go. If you don't think that's balanced or the other spells or abilities are balanced, you can use console to remove them by typing "help "[spell name]" and then player.removespell [#ref] ... but if you're on a path, you're going to get some of them right back. Some quests aren't meant for you to teleport yourself away, like if you're enjoying an evening getting Elisif to cause a distraction for you while you sneak around the Thalmor Embassy, you might not want to cast "Carried to Riften" from there - just saying. It kinda breaks the game. Be responsible.
This game has a weird idiosyncrasy where some NPCs and animals have an "aggro warning radius" which I don't think you can do anything about, which makes it less fun to just channel "Change of Heart" into because they'll get right back up and attack you because you've surpassed their warning radius. You might have to just run away from them or slaughter them and pay the penance. (I used to have it so that it punished your resto skill but after a while, it just got annoying so I turned crimes and assaults and what not into penances).
Anyway, this mod was fun to make and to test. If you don't like it, you can always remove it. Cheers.
