This mod is a completely rebuilt and revitalized version of the mod Immersive Civil War Units by Cooktastraphy with bug fixes, tweaks, and more. Thank you to him for the basis of this mod.
Have you ever wondered why the Imperial Legion, the army of the Empire that conquered (pretty much) an entire continent looks so pathetic? Or why the Stormcloaks, rebel militia under the rule of a powerful Jarl with the power of the Voice all wear fur gear and armor weaker than leather? This mod diversifies and completely revitalizes the gear of both sides of the civil war to make them a bit less terrible and more immersive. It's based off of the mod Immersive Civil War Units by Cooktastraphy with several fixes and tweaks. Here's what has been changed:
Starting with the Legion, there are now three distinct types of Imperial soldiers:
Medium: These are the standard infantry in the Legion. They're the most common and make up the bulk of the empire's forces. They come equipped with heavy Imperial boots, gauntlets, and helmet, with a studded light cuirass, light shield, Imperial sword, Imperial bow, and steel arrows.
Light: These are light infantry that can quickly maneuver in and out of combat and scout out the battlefield, and are a bit less common than standard medium infantry. They come equipped with full light imperial armor, an imperial sword, an imperial bow, and steel arrows.
Heavy: These are powerful heavy troops armed for full on combat, and are the least common soldiers you'll come across. They come equipped with full heavy imperial armor and a full faced imperial helmet, a heavy Imperial shield, an Imperial sword, Imperial bow, and steel arrows.
Officers have remained unchanged, although Legates will now wear officer helmets.
Tullius has remained unchanged.
The stats of Imperial gear have also been tweaked:
-Light Imperial armor has been buffed.
-Studded Imperial armor is slightly stronger than light Imperial armor.
-Imperial light shield slightly buffed.
-Heavy imperial gear is now as strong as steel.
Now for the Stormcloaks, they are much more diversified:
All Stormcloak soldiers will proudly wear their Stormcloak cuirass, but that's where the similarities end. There are now many more types of gear Stormcloaks will come equipped with:
Steel, hide, iron, scaled, fur, and ancient nord armor and shields (no scale shields because they don't exist) are now randomly distributed to Stormcloaks. (Not including cuirasses, they still have to look like Stormcloaks.)
Weapons they use consist of (two and one handed) steel, iron, and ancient nord.
Stormcloak officers can now spawn with ancient nord and honed ancient nord weapons, and Stormcloak generals at camps will now wear an officer helmet.
Ulfric remains unchanged.
The stats of Stormcloak gear have also been adjusted:
-Stormcloak cuirass slightly stronger.
-Stormcloak officer armor slightly buffed.
The balance now depends on what the Stormcloaks spawn with, and how many heavy Imperial soldiers spawn. So if there's 10 Stormcloaks, 4 of which have two-handed weapons, and only 1 or 2 heavy armored Imperials spawn, then the Stormcloaks will win, but if 4 heavy Imperial soldiers spawn, and only 2 Stormcloaks spawn with two handed weapons, then the Imperials will win. Tested about 15 battles and it was about the same win ratio for both sides, with 2-5 left on the winning side.
What I've changed from the original mod:
-No more naked Stormcloaks! fixed an overlook in the Creation Kit with some unique Stormcloak outfits lacking a proper node.
-Added heavy armored Imperials into Imperial spawn lists since they were altered but not implemented, and because Stormcloaks were winning way more often for me.
-Added some extra gear to Stormcloaks and tweaked their gear spawn ratio.
-Changed the ratio of Imperial soldier spawns. (Making heavy the least common, medium the most common, etc.)
-Added new leveled lists into Civil War siege and fort battles for Stormcloaks since they weren't implemented in the original mod and were using vanilla gear. Also if you're using a mod like Open Civil War that restores cut sieges Stormcloaks will wear proper gear.
-Changed guards at siege battles to use regular guard gear instead of the random altered ones Bethesda chose for them. (So if you're using mods that alter guard gear the siege guards will wear proper gear.) Same rule applies to mods like Open Civil war as before.
-Removed daggers from both sides of the war because it was causing silly looking duel wielding Imperials.
This mod should be loaded before any mod that alters an NPC's face, like character overhauls. If you have a specialized change from a mod that effects a smaller part of something than this mod, load it below. I generally load it between the middle and top of my load order. If you're using a mod that affects racial spawns like Diverse Skyrim, you will need to make a Bashed Patch with Wrye Bash.
Installation: Just install with a mod manager and activate the esp or drop the esp into your Skyrim SE data folder manually.
Obviously not compatible with mods that also directly alter the gear spawn pools of Stormcloaks and Imperials. Graphics mods are compatible. Not compatible with Immersive Armors, which has not aged well anyway and contains buggy meshes.
EDIT: *technically* compatible with Immersive Armors, but since it's packaged in a BSA, Rikke, Hadvar, Galmar, and Ralof will not wear their IA armors.
Checked and cleaned with SSEEdit and ironed out for bugs. Report issues if you come across any and I'll see what I can do.
