Randomocity's Enhanced Vanilla Skyrim SE Guide
ALL CREDIT Goes to the Mod Authors I linked to for EVERYTHING they have done. I in NO way take credit for any of it, this is just a list I put together, mostly for myself to keep track of my build and for anyone else who wants to try it out. Always read the mod pages of the mods linked and support the mod authors if you can.
It's very simple, take the base vanilla game and make it better with an easy to follow guide. All you have to know yourself is how to install programs on your PC, how to read, and how to make your own decisions here and there.
I have been adding mods to my games for a few years now. Back when OG Skyrim came out and I discovered mods. I wasn't good at it, and over the years I've spent a lot of time modding Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim, and Fallout 4 when it released and I've learned quite a lot. But the game I spent the most time playing and modding has been Skyrim.
I played it so much in fact that I became bored with the Vanilla game, and wanted a change. So I looked through A LOT of the mods over time, I tried a bunch of different combinations, complete overhauls, hardcore stuff, and for fun things. After all that time here is what I have learned.
Complete Overhauls
Guides were huge, comprehensive, and tended to get VERY complicated. If you knew every aspect of modding, and had the patience it was worth it, but one mistake could send the game crashing.
Hardcore Overhauls
Such as Ultimate Skyrim and Requiem for Skyrim LE are really cool, and relatively easy to install now if you follow the instructions...but way too difficult game-play wise for me.
For Fun Stuff
Can be very fun, but not really meant for a real play-through I think.
Different Combinations
This was ultimately the way I went when I modded, and quite often I would just open every category of mods, and search through every page opening mods that I found interesting. I spent a month modding and re-modding SSE trying out as many combinations of mods as I could until I began to realize I preferred some mods over others. My mod list became refined and became more stable after time, but by no means was it perfect.
Enhanced Vanilla SSE
Is my preferred combinations of mods, filtered and simplified, so that almost anyone should be able to run it and have a better then vanilla experience. I will make this guide as easy and as simple to follow, but just know that a lot of what other people do I probably won't. SSEEdits, Cleaning Plugins, altering Plugins, Creation Kit alterations, etc...none of that for that is out of my realm of knowledge.
This guide is for those who want to spend a bit of time downloading and installing mods, and then playing the game. The hardest thing on this list will be running DynDoLOD, but that will be optional.

PART 1:
Beginners essentials.
If this is your first time modding Ill make this easy.
1. Mod Organizer 2
Install, create your profile, I recommend changing the main path to a new folder to a bigger HDD or an SSD that isnt running your OS. Then connect it to Nexus.
2. SKSE64
The most important piece, Open with 7-zip/winrar (whichever you prefer) and drag everything IN the folder to the SSE folder with the game EXE, not the data folder.
3. Latest ENB binaries
Open the ZIP, open the 'Wrappers' folder, and only put the 'd3d11.dll' and 'd3dcompiler_463.dll' into your game folder, we shall tackle ENBs later.
4. BethINI
This will set up your INI files to be a lot better, therefore making your game better. I know, good explanation, give the mod page a look through, and make it a habit for all mod pages. Extract the folder to wherever you want, and run it but make sure MO2 is closed!
5. Wryebash
I usually get the installer, its simple and shall be used later, just install it for now.
6. LOOT:
Orders the plugins in a better order for you, all you have to do is download and install, MO2 will have it set as an option to run when you open it next.
7. Adress LIbrary for SKSE plugins
download and install with MO2, it is needed for-
SSE Engine Fixes
This will fix bugs with the game engine and other mods down the road may require it. Download Part 1 with MO2, and Part 2 manually. Drag the contents from the folder to the game folder.
9. Papyrus Util
needed for DynDoLOD and some other mods, use MO2.
10. powerofthree's Papyrus Extender for SSE
Needed for a few mods down the line. Use MO2.
11. SkyUI
Best UI mod for Skyrim, also needed for nearly all the mods down the line.
.Make sure everything installed with MO2 is activated. Now switch the dropdown menu next to RUN to SKSE, and hit run, it will take a little bit to launch , it should say compiling shaders, then go blank. just wait. . . .the main title screen will now open. as we put more mods in it will start to take a little longer to load, if you are doing everything on an SSD it will be faster. Hop in the game, check the menus when you can, you should be seeing a different menu screen for armor and magic and the like. Close the game when its all good.
PART 2
VISUALLY ENHANCED VANILLA SKYRIM SE
Ive seen other mod lists go all out adding as many textures as possible...but I wont be doing that. Instead Im going to make 2 recommendations of main texture overhauls, then a few smaller things to add to it. Remember, this is just Enhanced Vanilla, I'm not overhauling the game.Unless otherwise stated, download and install all through MO2.
1A. Noble Skyrim
keeping with the more fantasy look of skyrim while also being the most performance friendly. the one I normally use. Download the SMIM patch in the files section.
1B. Skyrim By Pfuscher
{Note: I have been told that there are reports of missing textures here and there in these packs, I still like how they look so I will leave them here but just letting you know to make an informed decision)

I dont recommend the 4k textures unless you have a pretty decent PC. Definitely dont get them if running at 1080p, that would be pointless.

8. Trees and Landscape

Choose quality on install, do not select better distant trees as we will be adding LODs later.
Extra Note: All of these following mods SHOULD be used with DynDoLOD, which I will be using. However, if you don't want to use DynDoLOD i Recommend only installing Enhanced Vanilla Trees and Enhanced Landscapes , Follow the same steps as shown below and select Pregenerated LODs for EVT at the final window. Do NOT install the Billboards file

Used for DynDoLOD, get the LUSH Dark or LUSH bright trees from the 'Optional files', I prefer dark.
Enhanced Vanilla Trees
Get the main file, and the billboards file under 'Optionals'. When installing Main file, on the first page of the installer select: Enhanced Darker meshes 'Next'
Lush trees (small) 'next', Enhanced tree clutter, Firewood textures, none under SFO-Branches, select both options under alternative trees, 'next'.Billboards 'Install'EVT Billboards:
On the first window select Custom trees, realistic aspen trees 'next', 'none' in first box and lush vurts snow trees in second 'next', select nothing 'next', nothing again 'next', 'install'.
Enhanced Landscapes
better distant LOD stuffs, will be used with DynDoLOD but isn't necessarily required to use. On the first page of the installer select Enhanced solstheim ash trees,Dead Marsh, and Immersive Citizens patch (after installing disable the Immersive citizens patch in the plugins menu for now) 'Install'.
BEFORE RUNNING DYNDOLOD
If you havent already, start the game and check that everything works. I get A constant 60 FPS at this point, if you aren't getting that then I recommend not running DynDoLOD unless you run everything at low which can actually give you better performance.

If you want use this, manually download the first file and download the 'Resources' file with MO2.

If you downloaded everything from Trees and Landscapes Then I HIGHLY recommend using DynDoLOD as that will be the only way for most of these to work.

Smooth Sky Mesh
Volumetric Fog
Download The Obsidian Version from the files section.
An 'Install Mods' window will open. Click the down arrow on the 'Supreme and volumetric fog-' right click on 'Obsidian Fog with FX' and select 'Set Data Directory. Then hit OK at the bottom.
Volumetric Mist
Adds a very good effect to the distance, giving the land a much farther feel.
Choose the 'Balanced Performance' Option and 'next', then 'install'.
Obsidian Weathers and Seasons
Download the main file and the True storms Patch from the files section.
True Storms
Great weather mod, just the main file
Skyrim Re-engaged ENB
Download the Obsidian Version, open with 7-zip or winrar.
Open 'Main File'
Choose between the different performance versions and open the folder (I chose 'Best Image' but that hits harder on your system)
Copy all contents straight into you game folder.
ELFX
Personal favorite lighting mod. During the install Choose the 'Enhanced' Option 'Exteriors' and 'Ice' options.
