This guide was inspired by the Guide to Animation.hkx conversion for Skyrim Special Edition guide which, while offering a workable batch script, gives misleading/wrong instructions and hasn't been updated in a couple years. This guide includes images and detailed instructions and each step has been thoroughly tested with a variety of older, not yet converted to SSE mods. It's entirely Newb friendly and since it bundles the Havoc post processor it also bypasses the need for Nexus users to download the entire SSE Creation Kit through the Bethesda Launcher.

Step by Step Instructions

1. Manually download and extract the archive to an empty working directory. Don't use your Mod Loader/Manager yet: this is not a mod, it's a batch file and an .exe file that you will use (possibly more than once!). After you have extracted the archive your new directory should contain three files:
   - convertToSSE.bat
   - readme.txt
   - HavokBehaviorPostProcessor.exe

2. Manually download the old animation mod you wish to convert - do not use Vortex, MO2, or any other Mod Organiser at this stage.



3. Extract the entire contents of the Skyrim mod (in our example we are converting Realistic Animation Project) using 7Zip or WinRar into the same directory as this readme file. Your working directory should now contain the three files from before plus any folders/files from the mod:
   - convertToSSE.bat
   - readme.txt
   - HavokBehaviorPostProcessor.exe
   - ModFolders
   - ModFiles.hkx



4. Double click convertToSSE.bat. Note that this will replace any files that it converts in place. When it's finished you should see a message that says "Please read the results of output.txt to ensure that all files were successfully converted."

5. There should now be an extra text file in your working directory called output.txt. Read that file and double check there are no errors - you should not see anything like "Could not process..." or "Error". The output.txt will contain a list of every file that the batch script has processed.

6. You now need to repackage the mod using 7zip or WinRar. If using WinRar, right click the parent folder of the mod and click "Add to Archive". Give the archive a different name to the original mod so you can easily identify it later.



7. Now, since the mod is repackaged and all the files have been converted in place, you can simply add the mod
   using your Mod Loader of choice (Vortex, MO2, NMM, etc). For MO2 choose "Install a new mod from an archive".



8. From here, you install your newly converted SSE mod as normal! That's it, you're done!

Troubleshooting

Q: Help! I keep getting "Could not load resource: Does file exist?  Is it a proper Havok file?" Error!
A: The post processor doesn't work on havok files that have already been converted. Double check you have not
   accidentally run the batch file twice (the modified date for all files should be whenever you last ran
   the batch file). If you really aren't sure, delete the mod folder and start again from scratch by
   re-extracting all files and folders from the original mod download.

Q: My output.txt file is empty, save for a message that says "You should not see any errors in this file. Make
   sure to read the text carefully!"
A: If your output.txt contains only this message then the batch file has failed to find any files or folders
   inside your working directory. Make sure all files and folders are inside the same directory as this readme
   file, the batch file, and the post processor tool from Bethesda.
