uGridsToLoad

Download archive manually
Extract using 7-Zip or WinRAR
Double click a txt file to open with Notepad

Right click and copy
Paste into Skyrim.ini or SkyrimPrefs.ini located at:

You are free to do whatever you want



uGridsToLoad

First, understand that higher uGrids can lead to save game corruption. 

An easy way around that is to keep the Interior Cell Buffer at default and only save in an interior space. 

Breezehome and the other Bethesda player homes work perfectly.

Always keep at least 3 saves and then when you create a new save, always overwrite the oldest. 

Do not use quicksave at all. 

This way you will always have at least two backup saves.

You can do more if you like.

Disable all automatic saving using the following SkyrimPrefs.ini settings:


[MAIN]
bSaveOnPause=0
bSaveOnRest=0
bSaveOnTravel=0
bSaveOnWait=0

[SaveGame]
fAutosaveEveryXMins=600000


Occassionally there may be a scripted save but you should replace it with a regular full save as soon as possible.

Following these rules you should not have any issues at all with higher uGridsToLoad. 

You are free to do whatever you want of course.

The following grass settings are all tested and work flawlessly with both Verdant and Veydosebrom.



uExterior Cell Buffer

uExterior Cell Buffer should always be equal to uGridsToLoad + 1 squared.

uGridsToLoad=5 + 1 = 6
6 x 6 = 36
uExterior Cell Buffer=36



iGrassCellRadius

iGrassCellRadius should always be equal to uGridsToLoad - 1 divided by 2

uGridsToLoad=5 - 1 = 4
4 / 2 = 2
iGrassCellRadius=2

1 cell in Skyrim = 4096 units, so iGrassCellRadius=2 is 2 cells or 8192 units

iGrassCellRadius is the amount of grass which is fully rendered around the player.

TOTAL GRASS VIEW DISTANCE = 8192 units or 2 cells



fGrassStartFadeDistance

fGrassMinStartFadeDistance________|________fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance

fGrassStartFadeDistance defines what point on the line above that grass starts to fade.

This sets the in-game slider somewhere between fGrassMinStartFadeDistance=0 and fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance=whatever

It is measured from where iGrassCellRadius ends.

iGrassCellRadius=2 x 4096
fGrassStartFadeDistance=8192

So far we have:
iGrassCellRadius=8192 + fGrassStartFadeDistance=8192

TOTAL GRASS VIEW DISTANCE = 16384 or 4 cells



fGrassFadeRange

fGrassFadeRange defines the point where grass will fade out of view completely.

It begins where fGrassStartFadeDistance ends.

fGrassFadeRange = iGrassCellRadius=2 x 8192
fGrassFadeRange=16384

iGrassCellRadius=8192 + fGrassStartFadeDistance=8192 + fGrassFadeRange=16384

TOTAL GRASS VIEW DISTANCE = 32768 or 8 cells



fGrassMinStartFadeDistance and fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance

The last 2 are the values for the in-game slider located in the start menu:

fGrassMinStartFadeDistance=0 = minimum value that the slider can be adjusted to in game
fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance=8192 = maximum value that the slider can be adjusted to in game

fGrassMinStartFadeDistance 0________________8192 fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance

Bethesda most likely set fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance at 7000 by default in order to improve performance a bit

iGrassCellRadius=8192 + fGrassStartFadeDistance=8192 + fGrassFadeRange=16384

TOTAL GRASS VIEW DISTANCE = 32768 or 8 cells (slider set to max)

This is as high as I recommend going with uGridsToLoad=5
