Did it ever strike you as odd that after you have finished vanquishing the Dark Brotherhood, an organisation whose murky members have lurked in the shadows of the Empire for over a millennia (with most accounts indicating it was already founded by 2E 358, 1172 years before the Stormcloak Rebellion) the Empire sees fit to reward you with a lump sum of 3000 gold? One might assume that their coffers are somewhat emptied by the successive and yet wonder why this seems like little more than the settlement of a bounty. Besides, from a gameplay perspective, isn't it incredibly disappointing that the alternative to siding with the Dark Brotherhood is merely a chance to kill them all for some coin?
I don't really have the time or resources to put this quest line into the state it should be in, but I can offer a minor improvement that makes sense from both a lore-perspective, and one of gameplay. It was bothering me that the only real way to attain the Penitus Oculatus Armor is to murder one of their members; what if one desired to play a stealthy character that remained loyal to the Empire? Even if you were to attain it through some obscure daedric ritual, it would still fall off incredibly quick, hardly much better than the Imperial Light Armor in terms of stats. Keeping these two desires in mind, I have made this small mod to alleviate some of the disappointment with 'Destroy the Dark Brotherhood.' It increases the gold reward to 4000, adds a letter from the Emperor himself explaining why the reward is not greater, and an enchanted set of Penitus Oculatus Armor with better stats, custom enchantments (from Summermyst) and a lore-friendly name.
Now you can be an imperial spy if you so desire, or a lawful Assassin... or even just a killer who gets properly rewarded.
An actual reward for wiping out the Dark Brotherhood.
A custom Penitus Oculatus set with alluring enchantments for a true champion of the Emperor.
A letter from the Emperor himself, Titus Mede II, explaining why your name is not repeated in every corner of Cyrodill.
The set included is called the Emperor's Eye, and while it isn't the strongest of armors in terms of stats, its unique enchantments should make it a worthwhile alternative for a stealthy character. I sadly did not have time to make any custom textures, but the 2K textures from Bethesda look quite decent. See the screenshots for details.
