espfe plugins are great, they allow easy use of more than 254 plugins and usually allow users to completely avoid having to merge any of their plugins.
but many tools do not properly work with them, including many zEdit patchers. this is a tutorial on how to get around that limitation.

Know Your Enemy/Armor Patcher
1. download SSEEdit https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/164
2. download Add_Masters_By_Signature_KYE.pas from the files section and put it into the SSEEdit/Edit Scripts Folder.
3. Load up your entire load order in SSEEdit.
4. Right click on any mod and choose "Apply Script"
5. Find Add_Masters_By_Signature_KYE and run it.
6. SSEEdit will ask you to choose a name for your newly created dummy plugin. use something like "zEdit_Dummy_KYE".
7. after the script is done, save the new plugin and close SSEEdit.
8. now, Start up zEdit. when selecting plugins, right click and choose select all, and then uncheck selected. select only "zEdit_Dummy_KYE.esp". click OK.
9. zEdit should now only load the plugins that are necessary for the patch, rather than your entire load order.
If zEdit still loads more than 254 plugins, you will have to merge some to get below that! this workaround only filters your mods for the necessary plugins, but if you still have to many after that, this tutorial will not help!
10. run the Know your Enemy and Know your Armor patchers, preferably one by one rather than bulk, save and exit.
11. you can now safely delete zEdit_Dummy_KYE.esp.
True Unleveled Skyrim Patcher
1. download SSEEdit https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/164
2. download Add_Masters_By_Signature_TUS.pas from the files section and put it into the SSEEdit/Edit Scripts Folder.
3. Load up your entire load order in SSEEdit. THIS INCLUDES ANY zEDIT PATCHES DONE EARLIER, SUCH AS KNOW YOUR ENEMY.ESP!
4. Right click on any mod and choose "Apply Script"
5. Find Add_Masters_By_Signature_TUS and run it.
6. SSEEdit will ask you to choose a name for your newly created dummy plugin. use something like "zEdit_Dummy_TUS".
7. after the script is done, save the new plugin and close SSEEdit.
8. now, Start up zEdit. when selecting plugins, right click and choose select all, and then uncheck selected. select only "zEdit_Dummy_TUS.esp". click OK.
